Too often damage occurs when a piano is being moved.  I have repaired many front bottom corners of grands that were not properly protected or the piano was dropped.  Especially if it is a grand, the complexity of successfully moving it dictates the need to hire a company that specializes in only moving pianos.

Large moving van lines will usually represent that their personnel are knowledgeable in moving pianos.  As someone who has been given a LOT of job security over the years by those large moving companies, my advice is to seek out the services of a specialized piano moving company to save you the frustration of needing the services of a piano touch-up specialist.

For a long distance move, hire the specialized piano mover to pack your piano onto a skid board that you purchase, have them load and strap it into the truck of the long distance moving van lines.  Then reverse that process on the other end with a specialized local piano moving company in your new area to unload and move it into your new home.  Get a referral of a good piano mover on the other end from one of the following:  a high-end dealer (such as Steinway), a Registered Piano Technician, a high-end music school or piano teacher, or a large church
